Meet Theresa

Workforce Challenge

Theresa dropped out of high school in the ninth grade. At 17, she was pregnant with her son. She also had a daughter before separating from her partner. As a single parent with no job or place to live, Theresa had to move into a women’s shelter.

Workforce Solution

Funding received by the WIB, through Operation New Hope, allowed Theresa to complete her high school education at John Muir Charter School. The funding covers costs of childcare and transportation while Theresa takes classes and works as a customer service assistant.

Outcomes & Benefits

Theresa is now employed while studying to complete her high school diploma. Her goal is to go to college to attain a business degree. She says, “For the first time in my life, I have a true support network and I am working hard to make a better life for myself and my children."
