Meet Ruben

Workforce Challenge

Ruben worked for a rental car company, where he was a manager in training for two months earning $10/hr. Unfortunately, he did not pass his training and lost his job. He had difficulty finding work and needed to enhance his skills and get work that would enable him to take care of his family which included both of his parents and younger siblings. The California Employment Development Department (EDD) referred Ruben to the Gardena One-Stop to receive information about vocational training.

Workforce Solution

Once Ruben attended his eligibility appointment, he found out he was eligible to receive funding under the WIA Adult Program to obtain training. Ruben enrolled in the American Career College in Los Angeles so he could pursue his desired career as a Pharmacy Technician.

Outcomes & Benefits

Upon completion of his training and externship as a Pharmacy Technician, Ruben was offered a position as the Lead Pharmacy Technician with Biofusion Pharmacy in Torrance. The initial salary offered was $38,400, but a week later his supervisor informed him that his annual salary would be increase to $43,200. Congratulations, Ruben!
