Meet Rita

Workforce Challenge

Rita came to the Reno Workforce Oklahoma center in Oklahoma City, OK in June of 2009. She had been laid off from her Laboratory Supervisor position when her company closed down.

Workforce Solution

She applied for and received WIA funding to attend the Associates in Applied Science in Nursing program at Oklahoma City Community College. She began her studies in August of that year and completed her degree on December 15, 2010. Prior to finishing school, Rita met with her WIA Career Coach to create a resume that highlighted her nursing skills and to obtain job search advice. Throughout her job search, Rita worked closely with her Career Coach to get tips, practice interview questions, and receive assistance on other job search documents such as cover letters and thank you notes.

Outcomes & Benefits

On January 24, 2011, just one month after completing her degree, Rita found full-time employment as a Registered Nurse on the Oncology floor of a local hospital. Rita is very grateful for the new employment opportunity the Workforce Investment Act has afforded her, and in her words, thinks this program is “awesome”.
