Meet Harold

Workforce Challenge

After 25 years of established employment with the same company, Harold's employer moved operations to Mexico and his position was eliminated. Harold was devastated and did not know how he was ever going to replace his lost income to support his family. The poor economy and his lack of marketable job skills contributed to his burden.

Workforce Solution

The Oklahoma Employment Services’ Rapid Response team encouraged Harold to meet with staff at the Workforce center. Harold did and enrolled in the Aircraft Maintenance Technology program at Gordon Cooper Technology Center on August 11, 2009 to train to become an Aircraft Mechanic in hopes of securing employment at Tinker Air Force Base. With the collaboration of service teams for the Trade Adjustment Act and WIA Dislocated Worker Program, Harold was able to attend 18 months of training which included an internship at Tinker Air Force Base.

Outcomes & Benefits

On Saturday, February 19th, 2011, Harold achieved his final endorsement with the Federal Aviation Administration. Now having completed the training at Gordon Cooper and securing the endorsements for Airframe and Powerplant with the FAA, Harold is eligible for full time civil service employment that will provide an earning opportunity even greater than he had before.
