Willamette Valley Company

Workforce Challenge

Willamette Valley Company (WVCO) is a family owned manufacturing business that serves the wood products industry. It produces coatings, fillers, adhesive products, and customized robotic equipment. Located in Eugene, Oregon, the WVCO has been in business for over 50 years and employs over 100 workers. In 2005, the company decided to implement high performance techniques to improve competitiveness, but it needed help to prepare its employees for this change.

Workforce Solution

Lane Workforce Partnership provided a seed grant of $26,000 that WVCO matched with $93,000 of company investment in the project.

Outcomes & Benefits

As a result, WVCO's Regional Operations Manager Bob Halligan worked with Lane Workforce Partnership to found the Emerald Valley High Performance Enterprise Consortium. The Consortium is comprised of Lane County businesses implementing lean enterprise strategies. Bob currently serves as the president of the consortium, using what he and his company have learned to mentor many other area businesses in lean methods—a true success story in making the entire region more competitive.
