Meet Helea

Workforce Challenge

Helea came into the Cleveland County Workforce Center looking for employment, when she learned about the WIA youth program. She had already completed the GED test when she enrolled in the youth program but she still had a lot of obstacles in front of her. Her short term goal has been to enroll in vocational training for Information Technology. Through 2014, Helea dealt with the stress of homelessness and a lack of transportation due to an auto accident. She was also caring for her two children, and arranging child care as well as managing her husband’s legal issues.

Workforce Solution

The Workforce Center provided Helea with the opportunity to focus and complete the SOAR study skills and Smart Work Ethics.

Outcomes & Benefits

Helea was able to secure temporary employment. In November 2014, she was notified she would be able to enroll at MNTC. She has started her training as a Database Jr. Developer. Helea's persistence has been recognized by her instructors and peers.
