Meet Jeff

Workforce Challenge

After being released from prison, Jeff struggled to find employment and housing. He lived off of gifts and contributions from friends and family members. Jeff was grateful that he was allowed to see his three children but it hurt that he was unable to provide any financial support for them. He started an exhaustive search for work and found a job however it required him to have a Commercial Drivers License.

Workforce Solution

Jeff arrived at the Cañon City Workforce Center with a tentative job offer from the Colorado Department of Transportation. A Wagner-Peyser team member, using the ReGen interview strategy, recognized that if Jeff could just find a way to regain his Commercial Drivers License, he could secure the job and work toward financially providing for his children The Wagner-Peyser team member requested an expedited application to the Workforce Investment Act Program on behalf of Jeff The Cañon City Workforce Center Workforce Investment Program team went into high gear fast-tracking Jeff through the assessment and enrollment process and then sponsoring his registration in a ten day intensive crash course in Denver.

Outcomes & Benefits

Jeff completed the course, was hired by the Colorado Department of Transportation as a Temporary Worker and, due to a terrific work ethic and attitude, landed a permanent position with CDOT.
