Meet George

Workforce Challenge

George is a disabled U.S. Army Veteran who lived and worked in Colorado for 5 years. He left the area for a short time to return to his Mississippi home due to a family illness and a problem with personal addiction. He returned to Colorado in the summer of 2014, clean and sober, but was having a difficult time finding any kind of work. After numerous applications and interviews for positions, George found himself on the verge of being homeless, as well as jobless.

Workforce Solution

George contacted the Leadville Workforce Center and the staff assisted him with job search, referrals, and resume help. Although workforce staff assisted, he still wasn't having much luck. He was referred to the Workforce Investment Act program and was enrolled quickly. When it was learned that George was having housing problems, he was also referred to Veteran Programs that partner with the Workforce through the Chaffee County Veterans Services Officer.

Outcomes & Benefits

Through the WIA program, George is now studying for his GED and will soon test. The County Veteran Services Officer was able to arrange temporary housing for George when it was needed most but through “Homes for All Veterans” George was able to get permanent housing. George has gone to work as a maintenance technician and likes the job. His situation is much more stable. He is well and increasing his potential. Congratulations to George and thanks to all our partners!
