Meet Yoselyn

Workforce Challenge

Throughout high school, Yoselyn struggled with passing the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills exams and had the most difficulty with the reading portion. Yoselyn is also a young mother of a 3 year old daughter and has had difficultly making ends meet.

Workforce Solution

Yoselyn enrolled in the Chemeketa Teen Parent Program and while there learned about the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC)exam as an alternative path to meeting her high school graduation requirements. She invested hours of time in reading books from the library and gaining reading skills through a variety of ways. Through her dedication, Yoselyn met the Oregon Essential Skill requirement through the NCRC assessment and is now able to graduate high school.

Outcomes & Benefits

Yoselyn felt that the NCRC was uncomplicated and did not give her the anxiety and pressure that the OAKS exams did. She is proud of her accomplishment with the NCRC and because she is now able to obtain her high school diploma, she is planning on continuing her education to become a radiation therapist. She believes that because she was able to graduate high school to pursue a career that her daughter will have a better life as well.
