Meet Twyla

Workforce Challenge

Twyla came into our office in May, 2013. She was requesting tuition assistance to complete Licensed Practical Nurse training.

Twyla was a single mother with one son and was receiving assistance in the form of food stamps and Medicare. Twyla’s mom offered to pay for daycare for her son so she could attend school, but she didn’t have the means to cover her tuition. Twyla heard about WIA through her school.

Workforce Solution

She received a WIA scholarship.

Outcomes & Benefits

Twyla graduated in June, 2014 and received her LPN license in July, 2014.

In August, 2014, Twyla was hired full time as an LPN making $47,840/yr, and she is now able to support her son on her own, and get off public assistance.

Twyla’s case is a perfect example of the positive impact that WIA can make in the lives of some individuals.
