Meet Micheal

Workforce Challenge

Micheal was a Veteran who came into the Workforce center seeking tuition assistance. He had been working part time as a Janitor making $9.50/hr. Previously, he had worked as a security guard but had left the position because he didn't seen an opportunity for advancement. Micheal also shared custody of his 8 year old daughter. He was pursuing an Associate’s degree in Solar Energy and received partial financial assistance through a GI Bill but he was struggling to come up with tuition for his remaining training. He heard about WIA through his school and he came in to request assistance.

Workforce Solution

Micheal received a WIA scholarship.

Outcomes & Benefits

He completed his training program in June, 2014 and was hired as a solar installer in September 2014. Micheal was able to successfully complete his training and start a career thanks to the assistance he received from WIA.
