Workforce Challenge

Theresa had been in and out of the North Carolina prison system for 12 years on a variety of charges. In January 2010, Theresa was released from Raleigh Correctional Center for Women. She found her way to StepUP Ministry, a service provider for the Capital Area Workforce Investment Board.

Workforce Solution

StepUP serves ex-offenders by facilitating their entry into the labor force, providing case management, job readiness training, and job search and employment services.

After she finished their readiness program, StepUP Ministry helped Theresa find a job working in customer service for Calvary Mortgage Group, where she worked for three months. During that time frame, StepUP Ministry was interviewing several candidates for the position of Employment Recruiter. Theresa applied for the job.

Outcomes & Benefits

After two interviews, Theresa was selected for the position at StepUP and has been in this role ever since, recruiting employers in Johnston County to hire StepUP Ministry graduates like herself. She is a great role model to many former offenders coming through the program and StepUP Ministry is fortunate to have her on their staff.
