Meet Denise

Workforce Challenge

Denise had been layed off and as a result, she had been living in her car with her boyfriend and 5 year old daughter. They had been donating plasma to earn money for food and gas. As she shared her story with her employment counselor, staff clearly saw the brokenness in her eyes which moved several of them to offer her food they had brought for their lunches that day.

Workforce Solution

Denise was provided with access to a local food bank and temporary shelter. She was assisted with the process to file for unemployment. For her job search, staff assisted Denise with creating an email address and resume and then provided guidance with how to conduct an online job search and submit applications.

Outcomes & Benefits

The following day, Denise came to the workforce center to let staff know she had received an email inviting her to a job interview at Denver International Airport. Staff referred Denise to Dress for Success for her job interview. Later, Denise came in person just to let the team know she gotten the job. She said that her new employer had been very impressed with her and her resume and that she had new hope for her and her family.
