Meet Laila

Workforce Challenge

Laila enrolled in the Youth Succeed program to get assistance with completing high school. Her home life was very difficult. As the eldest child, she helped with the financial needs and care of her siblings by taking on part time work during her junior and senior year of high school. During her senior year, Laila was accepted to Northeastern Junior College and her mom was against her attending. Their relationship deteriorated and she had to live with a friend, later reconnecting with her dad for support.

Workforce Solution

After enrolling in the Youth Succeed program, Laila was placed in an internship at the local county animal shelter to help build her work skills. After her successful completion, her case manager provided additional job leads to help her find a new job. Laila received incentives and supportive services which included transportation, school fees, supplies, clothing, and cap and gown purchase. Her case manager also provided guidance and assisted with her college enrollment, tuition, and books for her Fall 2014 semester.

Outcomes & Benefits

Laila successfully graduated from Brighton High School and received GPA and diploma completion incentives that helped her for some of her college expenses. Laila is successfully attending Northeastern Junior College and is doing well in all her classes. She is enjoying being independent and spending time with her father and siblings which makes her very happy. She hopes to one day repair her relationship with her mother, and looks forward to that opportunity in the future.
