Meet Debbie

Workforce Challenge

Debbie had dropped out of high school and was unemployed for several years when she decided to seek help in order to continue her education.

Workforce Solution

She contacted Apple Valley School District and was told she qualified to join the WIB’s @LIKE program which reconnects young adults to education or a stable job. Debbie became a student again, and is now on target to graduate with her diploma in May 2015.

As well as receiving help and guidance to get back into high school, Debbie has also been learning valuable work skills such as computing, interview techniques, and resume writing. She also earned her Career Readiness Certification.

Outcomes & Benefits

Her achievements led to her obtaining a job in the Environmental Services Department at St. Mary Medical Center where she was recognized as an outstanding employee on several occasions. The Workforce Investment Board provided gas cards for Debbie to travel to work and cash to buy a uniform at the hospital.

“This program has helped me change my life in many ways and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity,” said Debbie.

Debbie is also planning to enroll in Victor Valley College in the spring.
