Meet Maurene

Workforce Challenge

Since being laid off, Maurene had been trying very hard to secure employment but had been unsuccessful. She had been utilizing the resources of her local workforce center but nothing was working.
With her rent past due and bill collectors calling her regularly, Maurene was becoming depressed and frustrated.

Workforce Solution

Maurene shared with Cañon City Workforce Center staff that she had previously worked at a CNA and had enjoyed it. Unfortunately, she had let her license expire when she changed occupations. Staff recommended that she consider renewing her license and pursuing this employment track again with funding assistance through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).

Outcomes & Benefits

Maurene completed her program and has secured employment. During schooling, Maurene received rent assistance which enabled her to better concentrate on her studies and finish without incurring debt. Maurene is now self-sufficient and, in her words, “extremely grateful for the Cañon City Workforce Center and the WIA Program.”
