Meet Jason

Workforce Challenge

After working for a large telecommunications company for six years, Jason’s job was outsourced and he was laid off in June, 2012.

Jason only had a high school diploma and needed more education to make him more marketable for suitable employment. Jason lives in rural Colorado with his wife and small child.

Workforce Solution

Since he has a farming background, Jason chose to use a Trade Adjustment Assistance program (TAA) scholarship to obtain an Associates degree in Agriculture Business. Jason was co-enrolled in the WIA Dislocated Worker program which enabled center staff to also offer supportive services to Jason while he was in school.

Outcomes & Benefits

Through two years of schooling, Jason maintained a 4.0 GPA. He was fortunate to receive an offer of employment even before graduation and loves his new career. Jason already earns well over 80% of his previous salary. Without the assistance of the TAA scholarship and WIA supportive services, Jason may not have been able to accomplish his goal of working in agriculture management.
