Workforce Success Story Submitted By:
Los Angeles Urabn League

Workforce Challenge

Edwina is a mother of three. She began working as a Recreational Instructor with the City of Los Angeles Parks & Recreation Department in August 2005. In June 2010, Edwina was laid off of her job.

Workforce Solution

Edwina attended an Orientation with the Los Angeles Urban League - Crenshaw WorkSource Center and discovered she qualified for job training funds through the NEG Grant program. Edwina's Case Manager helped her research labor market information in her field of interest, which was alcohol and drug counseling. The labor market data showed Edwina how many job opportunities were available for Alcohol & Drug Counseling in California. With NEG grant funds, Edwina enrolled into the Chemical Dependency Counselor Program with the Crescent College program in September 2014 and will obtain the credential needed to pursue a career in the Allied Health & Rehabilitation Industry by June 30th, 2015.

Outcomes & Benefits

Edwina is looking forward to completing the Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor program with flying colors to receive her Alcohol & Drug Counseling Credential/Certificate. Soon after her completion of training, Edwina will receive job placement assistance for her new career. The California Multi-Sector Workforce Partnership National Emergency Grant funds have helped Edwina obtain an in-demand Alcohol & Drug Counseling Credential in a Chemical Dependency Counselor Program for the Allied Health & Rehabilitation Industry.
