Meet Susan

Workforce Challenge

Susan was laid off from a Call Center when her position was outsourced to an overseas operation. She was relying on her unemployment income and Trade Readjustment Assistance (TRA) income to support herself.

Workforce Solution

Susan enrolled in the WIA program to assist her in obtaining her GED. Through the Trade Act program, Susan enrolled at Aims Community College. Her goal was to obtain hands on work experience in her last 2 semesters of school and the National Emergency Grant (NEG) provided that opportunity.

Outcomes & Benefits

Susan was matched with United Way for a Humanitarian flood related position and they were flexible with her schedule so that she could complete her last semester of school. When she completed her NEG grant, she was quickly hired by another site working with flood affected individuals on a longer term temporary site. During this time she was also going through the application and assessment process for a position with the Department of Human Services and has since accepted that position.
