Meet Ian

Workforce Challenge

Ian worked as a CNA for 12 years and had always dreamed of becoming a nurse to better support his wife and three children. Making ends meet had been a struggle for the family, and finding additional money for school was even more challenging.

Workforce Solution

In December 2013, Ian came to the WorkSource Center in Albany based on a referral from a friend. At the WorkSource Center, he pursued intensive and training services provided by the Workforce Investment Act through Community Services Consortium. Health care is a priority industry for the Linn, Benton, Lincoln WIB and there are a number of new health care facilities in the region. Ian received a Gold Level National Career Readiness certificate and was awarded scholarship funds for tuition, fees and licensing costs to work towards his nursing degree. He earned his Associates Degree in Nursing and passed his State licensing exam this in June 2014.

Outcomes & Benefits

After graduating, Ian obtained a nursing position at the Lebanon Hospital and moved further along a high demand career pathway. His current salary now exceeds the combined salary he and his wife were making at their full time positions previously. In addition, his new work schedule allows for flexibility in hours to enable him to spend more quality time with his family.
