Meet Miriam

Workforce Challenge

Miriam came to Glenwood Springs Workforce Center as a single mother with few workforce skills. She wanted a career in the medical field but lacked the means to obtain the necessary training. Without proper skills, finding a job where she could earn enough to provide a stable living arrangement for her and her son was extremely difficult. They had been living in a temporary safe house.

Workforce Solution

Miriam was very focused on self improvement and enrolled in the WIA program. Through a partnership with the Women in Transition program, Miriam was able to take advantage of training to become a Certified Nurse Assistant. After training was completed, Miriam began an on-the-job training position in a medical facility as a Call Center Receptionist and Appointment Scheduler.

Outcomes & Benefits

Miriam successfully completed her Call Center training and was subsequently promoted to a Medical Assistant position. She and her son have their own apartment now, and are happy. Miriam also received her Permanent Residency card since WIA enrollment and is very grateful for the support and time offered her by the Glenwood Springs Career Coach.
