Workforce Challenge

In 2011, Rachelle became unemployed for the first time in over 10 years. Having recently moved from Southern California to the Yuba-Sutter area, she soon discovered the labor market here was significantly different from what she was used to.

Workforce Solution

She realized she would be unlikely to return to the same occupation in her new location, so she decided to retrain in a different field altogether: healthcare. After researching the various training options available to her, Rachelle applied for the 18-month-long vocational nursing program offered at the Sutter County One Stop through the Regional Occupational Program. Rachelle attended the program from July 2012 through February 2014.

Outcomes & Benefits

Rachelle completed the program on schedule; she then took the required state test and passed it right away, obtaining her license soon after. She immediately began to apply for jobs and was made an offer within a month of when she started job searching. Rachelle accepted the position and is now working as a licensed vocational nurse in the Yuba-Sutter area. Congratulations Rachelle! Good luck in your new career!
