Going the Extra Mile

Workforce Challenge

A non-English speaking family of four had recently relocated from New Mexico and were looking for employment. Three of the family members were young adults, and all had previously worked as migrant seasonal farm workers. During their job search, JBS, a local animal protein processor/manufacturer, informed the family that they needed to supply their own English/Spanish translator to finish their application process. Unsure of what to do, the family visited the Resource Room at Employment Services of Weld County (ESWC) for guidance.

Workforce Solution

The ESWC Resource Room staff was not aware that JBS had implemented this process, so they asked one of their Business Services Representatives (BSR) for assistance. The BSR had worked with JBS in the past for recruiting and other services, and she confirmed this practice with the JBS HR Manager. The BSR then connected the family to a translator from an outside agency, at no cost, so they could finish their application and hiring process.

Outcomes & Benefits

Because the Business Services Representative went the extra mile, all four job seekers were hired and started employment with JBS. This family's income will increase greatly due to the services and teamwork ESWC staff and our business partner JBS provided.
