Meet James

Workforce Challenge

James experienced a rough time in his life after going through a divorce and losing his job in the economic downturn. He became unemployed and was running out of resources. With the help of his parents James moved back home to Fort Collins, CO; soon after that, he gained custody of his 2 year old son. James explains, "The greatest challenge I had at that time was finding childcare for my son so I could work." Many of the jobs James qualified for weren't in alignment with the hours he could find childcare. James came to Larimer County Workforce Center for assistance.

Workforce Solution

James qualified for the Larimer County Workforce Center's Works Program. He was anxious to get back to work and became active in the Works' Internship Program. James had previous experience working on cars. With this skill set and the desire to work daytime hours when he could obtain childcare, he identified an internship with a local automotive shop where he could build on his current knowledge and increase his employability.

Outcomes & Benefits

During his internship James was offered a full time job with the auto shop. He is now working there and learning every day. He is benefiting from a training opportunity that improves his skills; he is considered a valuable employee; and most of all, he is able to provide for his family.
