Meet Heather

Workforce Challenge

Heather's employer closed its doors and left her unemployed. Despite a Bachelor's Degree and a steady work history, she struggled to find work. She decided to combine a background working with her hands with an interest in nutrition to become a Dental Hygienist.

Heather attended Lane Community College (LCC) fulfilling prerequisites to be accepted in the Dental Hygiene Program.

Workforce Solution

After her acceptance into the Dental Hygiene Program, she applied for a U.S. Department of Labor funded Workforce Investment Act scholarship through Lane Workforce Partnership. Through Lane Workforce, Heather also earned her National Career Readiness Certificate. Heather was awarded a scholarship to help her complete her training.

Outcomes & Benefits

Heather graduated from LCC as a Dental Hygienist and started work at a family practice in Washington. In prior jobs, Heather earned around $10 an hour. As a Dental Hygienist, she now earns $40 an hour.
