Meet Cheyenne

Workforce Challenge

Cheyenne was laid off from her job with the LA Unified School District. In February 2014, after a very long period of searching for employment and submitting many job applications, Cheyenne attended an orientation at the Wilshire Metro WorkSource Center.

Workforce Solution

At the orientation, Cheyenne learned about vocational skills training opportunities that were available through the Multi-Sector Workforce Partnership National Emergency Grant (NEG) funding. Cheyenne was interested in pursuing training as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), so she was referred to a counselor to explore her options for training in health care. The counselor shared labor market information with Cheyenne to educate her on the demand and availability of jobs in the health care field and in the CNA occupation. Cheyenne also received information on I-train and ETPL so she could research training providers and select a program.

Outcomes & Benefits

Cheyene successfully completed CNA training and was certified as a
Nursing Assistant (CNA), a Home Health Aide and Restorative Nurse Assistant (RNA).

Cheyene obtained her certification in June 2014 and subsequently passed the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program with the State of California. She quickly secured full time employment and is earning $11 per hour.
