Meet Donald

Workforce Challenge

During the economic downturn and recession, Donald had a difficult time finding and keeping paid employment. He fell on hard times and became homeless. Donald also had some legal issues in his background. He had served in the military working on aircraft, worked in automotive and HVAC, and had held a variety of customer service positions. As a homeless vet, he started volunteering at Saint Vincent DePaul's Service Station (a client service center) filling any need they had open.

Workforce Solution

Saint Vincent DePaul referred Donald to become a Food Room Manager through the On-the-Job Training Program. They liked Donald's attitude and fit with the clients. He needed some additional training on a variety of computer software programs to be successful in the position. Through the Lane Workforce Partnership, Donald earned a Silver NCRC Certificate!

Outcomes & Benefits

After his training, Donald was hired by Saint Vincent DePaul. He learned FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. He became Forklift Certified and learned how to coordinate special projects and events. Donald also manages volunteers in the Food Room area. He is adding work skills and building a solid, current work history.

"I have an apartment now under Vet Lift," said Donald. Everyone is very nice and easy to get along with. The clients are great!"
