Meet Lori

Workforce Challenge

Lori came into the Jefferson County American Job Center searching for employment after the restaurant she had been employed with for the past 18 years closed down. As a person with disabilities, Lori was quite concerned about finding a new position. She had not searched for employment in nearly 20 years and was worried about finding a business to accommodate her disability. Given Lori's situation, she also had concerns with travel to and from work.

Workforce Solution

To assist Lori, the American Job Center staff conducted assessments and evaluations to determine whether her skills were relevant to today's workplace. Working with the AddME Talent Pool, Lori received resume review and interview preparation which greatly increased her self-confidence and subsequently her ability to find a new job. Staff from the AddME Talent Pool also checked in with Lori regularly to ensure she that she was staying motivated and not "slipping through the cracks."

Outcomes & Benefits

The American Job Center leveraged its employer contacts to place Lori into a new cashier position with KFC/Taco Bell and she could not be happier. She is provided work clothes, meals, and accommodations for her disability. The best part for Lori is that her new position is less than 1.5 miles from her house, making travel to and from work much easier. Lori learned that businesses are much more willing and able to work with disabled individuals than she thought. Congratulations, Lori!
