Meet Anna

Workforce Challenge

Anna was in foster care and was not focused on school. However, she was participating in the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) youth program at her high school. After her freshman year, she realized she needed to turn things around if she was going to get anywhere in life.

Workforce Solution

Anna's WIA counselor helped her enroll in the Health Occupations course at school. Anna quickly decided she wanted to become a pharmacist. Anna's counselor placed her in work experience opportunities in the medical field. As a quick learner, Anna was soon taking patients' vital signs, and she went on to be hired by the company. In her senior year, she asked about becoming a pharmacy tech. Anna enrolled in evening classes at the local community college and passed the course with flying colors. She was accepted into an internship at Bi-Mart's pharmacy. Throughout her high school years, she took College Now credits and maintained a high GPA.

Outcomes & Benefits

Anna is entering Oregon State University with over 20 college credits she earned in high school. She plans to enter the College of Pharmacy at OSU.
