Meet Nathan

Workforce Challenge

Nathan came into the American Job Center (AJC) as an unemployed veteran with a family in need of assistance. He had no job, no money for rent and no food for his family. He wanted assistance with improving his resume so that he would have a better chance of finding employment. Upon learning of his situation, the staff wanted to do more for Nathan and his family.

Workforce Solution

As Nathan had more issues than simply needing employment, AJC staff quickly contacted other divisions within the Jefferson County Human Services Department to take care of his family. Within one day Nathan had temporary funds for rent and T.A.N.F to feed his family, as well as a veteran's service representative assigned to him and resume and job search help.

Outcomes & Benefits

Nathan and his family felt secure for this first time in a while. The American Job Center was able to assist Nathan in overcoming his first barrier to employment - not knowing how his family would eat and where they would sleep. These challenges were preventing Nathan from taking the next steps in getting his life stabilized. Within a week of visiting the American Job Center and the Jefferson County Human Services Department, Nathan was able to secure employment while continuing to search for a career in his desired field.
