Eagle Valley High School - Career Readiness

Workforce Challenge

Kimberly, a business teacher at Eagle Valley High School, was looking for new ways to engage her students in career preparation and job readiness skills. She also wanted to better prepare them for life after high school.

Workforce Solution

In January 2014, the Frisco Workforce Center youth counselor met with Kimberly and her class to give information on all the programs and services available to youth through the workforce center. Nineteen students in the class were enrolled into the KeyTrain Program to participate in soft skills learning and work towards receiving their CareerReady Colorado certificate. Students took pre-tests in Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information, and Locating Information, and the KeyTrain results were reviewed with each student. Students also took the WorkKeys assessments to receive a portable credential designed to build their skills and develop successful career pathways.

Outcomes & Benefits

In May 2014, all nineteen students in the class completed the CareerReady Colorado assessments and a congratulations party was held to issue CareerReady Colorado certificates. Every student in the class, as well as Kimberly, is quite proud of their accomplishments. The School and Workforce created a lasting partnership on behalf of students and as Kimberly says: “Great opportunities for students! I look forward to continued collaborations.” Congratulations go out to all students!
