Workforce Challenge

Hawes Financial Group/Professional Credit Service was having difficulty finding qualified applicants to fill open positions. As a company focused on customer service and continuous learning among employees, the employer turned to Lane Workforce Partnership for assistance in finding better-qualified workers.

Workforce Solution

WorkSource Lane offered the On-the-Job Training (OJT) program to assist in providing potential employees with ongoing training. Candidates were required to take the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) assessment as well.

Under the program, every candidate starts with one week of training, then every week after, 1-2 hours of training in areas such as software, legal issues and job-specific training in how to be a successful credit representative for the company.

"The OJT program is easy to use and the NCRC adds to their qualifications and shows us their learning ability," said a Hawes manager. "We are a learning organization, and the needs to process new information and learn new skills through training is constant. [The NCRC] also gives the individual a certification of their skills."

Outcomes & Benefits

Hawes now has several long term employees on staff through the program. "Our business is growing and without the assistance from WorkSource Lane, it would be difficult to keep up with the demand of hiring and training new employees. We have hired five people using the program. This is a great program that provides a solution for us, the employee and the economy."
