Murdoch's Ranch & Home Supply

Workforce Challenge

During summer 2013, Murdoch's Ranch & Home Supply was building a new store in Silverthorne with an expected opening in early 2014. They needed assistance with all staffing, both to set up the new store and in retail staff for after opening. Specifically, they needed help advertising job openings, reviewing applications, and scheduling interviews, as well as a location to conduct hiring and orientation. The store needed to fill approximately 28-32 openings.

Workforce Solution

Frisco Workforce staff contacted store management and offered assistance with all of the above services. As the store was new to the area, Frisco Workforce assisted with identifying appropriate locations for hiring and orientation events. They also posted open jobs on Connecting Colorado and performed searches for qualified candidates. All job applications were received by the Workforce staff who reviewed applications and maintained the schedules for Murdoch's interviews.

Outcomes & Benefits

Frisco Workforce received 70 applications, identified appropriate candidates based on the job requirements, and scheduled 62 interviews. During a two-day hiring event, the candidates were interviewed and 18 were hired on the spot to be the core team to assist with merchandising tasks and store set-up. With its hiring goals accomplished, Murdoch's is very appreciative of the services that all Colorado Workforce Centers provide and plans to continue its relationship with the workforce center.
