Meet Alicia

Workforce Challenge

Alicia was attending high school and working full-time in Thornton, Colorado when she was referred to Youth Succeed to get help with high school fees which included concurrent college class needs like books and transportation. She lived in a loving home with her grandmother and sister but had to deal with the frequent absences of her mother and father.

Workforce Solution

Alicia received assistance with transportation, books, school supplies, clothing, and incentives that kept her motivated to be the best in her class. Her case manager was a trusted adviser to her and she was able to count on school staff which was crucial for her to stay on track to meet her educational goals. Alicia relied on all her support systems to help her be successful.

Outcomes & Benefits

Alicia's struggles also motivated her to be a great role model for her sister and to achieve her personal goal of attending college. The services provided by the workforce center and excellent case management provided helped her successfully graduate from high school as her 2014 class valedictorian and receive the Daniels Fund Scholarship that pays for all four years of college at the University of Denver. Alicia will begin classes Fall 2014 and her career goal is to become a ophthalmologist.
