Meet Pedro

Workforce Challenge

Pedro was referred for Youth Succeed services by his high school counselor in Aurora, Colorado. This teenager had been living on own with his older sister and nephew and has been and continues to be the sole provider for his family. In addition, Pedro was working full time and trying to finish high school which was difficult because he had no time to attend school.

Workforce Solution

Youth Succeed helped Pedro overcome his challenges by providing a case manager and outlining a sequence of services and steps to help Pedro meet his goals. The case manager worked hard to develop rapport, as Pedro needed someone he could trust to guide him. Pedro and his case manager had frequent communication, which was key to his success.

While in high school Pedro received assistance with school fees, transportation assistance, school clothing and supplies, and GPA incentives. However, attendance was a challenge because of his work schedule. Pedro decided to get his GED so he could attend college and find better self-sustaining work. Youth Succeed paid for his GED Ready practice tests and GED testing fees.

Outcomes & Benefits

Pedro successfully completed his junior year of high school and returned to senior year with the services provided by his case manager through the Youth Succeed program. These services also carried on to his GED needs and with the guidance, counseling, and encouragement of his case manager Pedro successfully obtained his GED and will begin college in fall 2014.
Looking forward, Pedro will be the recipient of tuition assistance, college textbooks, and school supplies and clothing. In addition, Pedro will exit the youth program successfully meeting all WIA common measures.
