Meet Tim

Workforce Challenge

Tim was an older worker who had been unemployed for 9 months after being laid off from his job as an aircraft worker. Tim had a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering but it was outdated. He job searched daily with no response from employers, which was very depressing. He came to the Wichita workforce center for assistance.

Workforce Solution

Tim was eligible for assistance under the Trade Adjustment Act. He wanted to update his current degree and take some CATIA V5 courses at Wichita State University. Tim worked together with his TAA Case Manager and he was enrolled in the CATIA V5 courses at Wichita State University to update his current degree.

Outcomes & Benefits

While in school, Tim updated his resume with the certificates he would receive from the CATIA V5 courses and continued his job search. Tim found employment with the a federal government contractor as a structures engineer. The company accepted Tim knowing he was attending college courses and agreed to allow him to continue his education. In his new job, Tim will be earning a higher wage than he did with his previous employer. He will also be eligible for health and dental insurance benefits after 90 days.
