Meet William

Workforce Challenge

William had been employed a total of 24 years in the aerospace manufacturing industry when he received notice that he was being be laid off from his position as an NC Programmer. At the time, he was making about $75,000 per year, and was expecting to stay in that job until retirement. Suddenly, he was collecting unemployment benefits and faced with finding a new job late in his career.

Workforce Solution

William learned about the services available from Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas and met with a case worker about possible training assistance to help him be more marketable. At the same time, he was looking for work and applying for any position for which he was qualified. He was selected to interview for a position as an NC Programmer with Infotech Enterprises at Bell Helicopter, but the job was located in Amarillo, Texas. Trade Adjustment Assistance funds helped William pay for transportation and a hotel stay during his interview.

Outcomes & Benefits

In April 2014 William received a job offer from Infotech Enterprises to work as an Aerospace NC Programmer Composites at a rate of $40 per hour. William has since relocated to Amarillo to start his new job. His case manager is helping him apply for TAA funds to support a move for his family to Texas to be with him.
