Meet Charles

Workforce Challenge

Charles worked as a manager of a residential hotel in the Bay Area, but his job ended due to a fire. He was not familiar with the employment market where he lived, due to working in the city for many years, but he new about the One-Stop system. Charles visited the Yuba County 1-Stop for assistance in finding a new job.

Workforce Solution

At the 1-Stop, Charles found all of the staff to be helpful. They assisted him with identifying potential job leads and learning the geography of the area. In addition, they provided the emotional support required to conduct a proper job search.

"By using the Yuba 1-Stop’s Resource Room for my job searching, it gave me the opportunity to work in an office setting and [have a] feeling of being employed, which provided the incentive to keep looking during a very bleak time in my life," shared Charles. "The Resource Room is also an opportunity to network with those who are in similar situations."

Outcomes & Benefits

With assistance from staff, Charles found new employment in 45 days and has worked full time since November 2011. "My counselors provided valuable information, and it was their objective to see that I found employment that would provide job security for the future," said Charles. "I would advise those who use the Yuba 1-Stop to utilize the staff’s experience and expertise, attend any and all classes they provide, learn as much as you can from them, and keep yourself open to new opportunities."
