Meet Helen

Workforce Challenge

Helen was laid off from from her customer service position with an international airline in November 2012. She searched constantly for a new job but was not able to secure employment.

Workforce Solution

Helen attended an orientation at Community Career Development, Inc., a City of Los Angeles WorkSource Center. She learned about the services available to those laid off from her employer. Helen was interested in vocational skills training in order to upgrade her skills.

On a follow-up visit, Helen met with a Business Development Associate to receive more information about the training components and requirements under WIA. Helen was qualified to receive training funds through the NEG/Multi-Sector Workforce Partnership grant. Helen was interested in training as a Security Guard since she had a background and some experience in customer service. Her counselor agreed that the certification would help Helen to be more employable, and she was enrolled in training.

Outcomes & Benefits

Helen successfully completed security guard training and earned the following certifications/permits: Guard Card, First Aid, Baton, Hand Cuffing, & Chemical Agents. Helen is now employed full time as a Security Guard Officer with SecuraAmerica LLC.
