Meet Maria

Workforce Challenge

Maria was long-term unemployed after being laid-off from her position with a manufacturer in the alternative energy industry. She came to Employment Services of Weld County seeking financial assistance through the Weld County Flood Recovery Community Corps (WCFRCC) National Emergency Grant (NEG) program.

Workforce Solution

As a long-term unemployed individual, Maria qualified for the NEG program and was placed on the WCFRCC Debris Removal Crew. She received assistance in the form of work clothes, personal protective equipment, gas vouchers, CPR/AED training, and Missoula Technology & Development Chainsaw Training. Learning to operate a chainsaw was a new skill for Maria and it took dedication and practice for her to become proficient.

Outcomes & Benefits

Maria not only learned how to safely and efficiently operate a chainsaw, but she also became a leader on the Debris Removal Crew. She demonstrated an excellent work ethic and friendliness to all crew members.

Maria exited the NEG program when she accepted a new job with Boulder Scientific Company as a Chemical Production Worker.
