Meet Freddie

Workforce Challenge

Like so many veterans returning from service and looking to start new careers in a challenging economic environment, Freddie faced a difficult transition from military to civilian life. High unemployment rates contributed to further difficulty in finding a job for which he was qualified.

Workforce Solution

Freddie learned about the South Bay Workforce Investment Board's dislocated worker services for veterans and visited the South Bay One-Stop Business & Career Center in his area. There, he enrolled in and completed the Premier Safety Attendant program, an OSHA certification program that qualified him for jobs in workplace safety.

Outcomes & Benefits

After completing training, Freddie found a job as a safety attendant. Freddie continued his training by taking additional Department of Labor-authorized OSHA courses that were made available free of charge to past program participants through the OSHA Training Center at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District. These classes helped him obtain a promotion to Safety Technician, and he is now earning $22/hour.
