Meet Hilda

Workforce Challenge

Hilda was a laid off aircraft worker who qualified to receive training under the Trade Adjustment Act. Hilda decided she wanted to train in a new career and obtain her Associates Degree in social work.

Workforce Solution

Hilda enrolled in the program and began taking classes towards her degree. In her last semester, she started struggling with a history course, but it was too late for her to withdraw or change her class. Hilda called TAA Case Manager to discuss the situation. After a conversation with the school, the TAA Case Manager spoke to Hilda and offered her tutoring services. TAA would assist with the cost of a tutor. Hilda gladly accepted.

Outcomes & Benefits

With the help of the tutor, Hilda continued in the class. Near the end of the semester, she called the TAA Case manager and stated she is doing much better in the History class. She was grateful to the TAA program for always offering the assistance she needed. Hilda currently has a B+ in the History class and is on her way to a degree in social work.
