Meet Efrain

Workforce Challenge

Efrain had dropped out of high school and had been unable to hold down a job. He was struggling with substance abuse. He was not happy with the path he was going down, but needed help to change things.

Workforce Solution

Efrain was introduced to the Oxnard Boys and Girls Club, where he joined the Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) and attended the daily job ready workshops. YEP staff helped Efrain study for his GED and provided funding to pay for the test, which he passed. Following this, they provided him with workplace contacts, taught him how to communicate with those contacts, and helped him put together a resume that would increase his chances of securing a job.

Outcomes & Benefits

In spite of finding himself homeless during his time in the YEP program, Efrain obtained a full time job, overcame his homelessness, and now appreciates the satisfaction that his newfound responsibility has provided him. His dedication to the program has helped him to be confident in his abilities as well as in himself. Efrain is now starting his own family and is looking forward to the future.
