Meet Steven

Workforce Challenge

Steven was laid off from a local aircraft company in 2010, after working there for nearly 11 years as a videographer/photographer. After the layoff, he worked as a freelance video producer to try to make ends meet, but he needed to get back to work full time.

Workforce Solution

Steven was eligible for the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program due to his layoff. He came into the Wichita Workforce center and enrolled in the program. With TAA training funds, he enrolled in Wichita State University's Accounting program. He graduated with his Bachelor's degree in December 2013.

Outcomes & Benefits

In Steven's last semester of school, he had three job offers from major companies in the Wichita area, pending the completion of his degree. He started working as an Accountant for a very reputable company in January 2014, with a starting wage of $57,000 annually. Steven is very grateful for all of the services the TAA program provided him. He was able to obtain a marketable skill, reenter the workforce and earn a salary that will support his family.
