Meet Alfonso

Workforce Challenge

Alfonso worked at an LAUSD school as a Security Guard. He was laid off when there were cutbacks in the budget in December 2012. He was introduced to PACE Westlake WorkSource Center in August 2013, where he qualified to receive assistance under the National Emergency Grant. With his unemployment insurance exhausted, he and his 15 year old daughter moved in with his mother. He was still interested in continuing a career in security; however he needed to get his Guard Card renewed because it was expiring soon.

Workforce Solution

PACE Westlake Worksource assisted Alfonso by covering the cost of the training for his Guard Card, his Firearm permit, and his Tear Gas, CPR/First Aid, and Baton certificates. During his training, the center also assisted him with transportation, because he had no money coming in at all.

Outcomes & Benefits

Alfonso completed training in October 2013. He received his Guard Card, Gun Permit, CPR/First Aid, and Baton certificates. After he finished his training, he was hired by a security company and started working full-time. He recently left that job and found another job offering a better opportunity and future. Alfonso continues to work to support himself and his family and to pursue opportunities for growth within the security field.
