Meet Antonia

Workforce Challenge

Antonia is an older worker who had been employed as an insurance biller for 12 years at a large medical center. She was laid off New Years Eve of 2012. She needed to support herself and the only income she had was unemployment insurance from EDD. She came to the Housing Authority WorkSource Center for assistance and she was enrolled in the WIA Dislocated Worker Program.

Workforce Solution

Antonia wanted a job that would allow her to be self sufficient, and she realized that she needed training. She was interested working in the medical field as a Certified Nurse Assistant/Restorative Nurse Assistant. With WIA funding, Antonia enrolled in nursing school and obtained her CPR and First Aid certificates. She also took the State Exam and passed.

Outcomes & Benefits

On Friday, November 15, 2013, Antonia was hired as a Certified Nurse Assistant/Restorative Nurse Assistant at La Mirada Hills Rehab and Convalescent Hospital. She is very grateful to the Housing Authority WorkSource Center for the six weeks of training she attended, and for helping her obtain employment in the medical field.
