Meet Haydee

Workforce Challenge

Haydee was laid off from L.A. Unified School District in June 2012 after 14 years of employment. She searched very hard for a new job, submitting applications constantly, but nothing worked out. She finally attended an orientation at the Wilshire Metro WorkSource center in May 2013, and learned she was eligible for assistance through the NEG/MultiSector partnership grant.

Workforce Solution

Haydee considered training options and thought that vocational skills training would help her to upgrade her skills. She was referred to a business development associate for assistance.

When Haydee met with the business development associate, she expressed interest in becoming a Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor. Her education and background were a good match, and Haydee felt that obtaining certification would help her become more marketable and find full time work.

Outcomes & Benefits

Haydee successfully completed training in Addiction Treatment Counseling in November 2013. In December, she secured full time employment with the National Council of Alcoholism & Drug Dependency (NCADD) as an Addiction Treatment Counselor earning $18.00 per hour. She is enjoying being able to help others in her new role.
