Meet Nancy

Workforce Challenge

Nancy enrolled in the WIA Youth Program in April 2011 to receive assistance with obtaining her GED and gaining work skills/experience. Nancy struggled with her GED activities due to her low self-confidence. She didn't feel she was capable of studying or testing for her GED. Math was the biggest struggle for Nancy. While she passed 4 of her tests within the first 4 months of enrollment, she had to work on her math daily for 2 1/2 years. During this time period, she often thought of quitting.

Workforce Solution

Nancy attended the Assessment and Learning Center as well as AIMS Community College GED Prep classes to work on increasing her education levels to help her obtain her GED.

Outcomes & Benefits

Nancy's hard work finally paid off! She passed her math test in September 2013. Afterwards, she re-tested to bring up her average score and obtained her GED on October 3, 2013. She was recently hired as an AmeriCorps Vista and her self-esteem and confidence have soared.
