Meet Brittani

Workforce Challenge

Brittani came to the Pikes Peak Workforce Center’s Youth Zone as a pregnant youth. She was living with her mother and younger brother and although she was enrolled in Pikes Peak Community College, she was basic skills deficient, testing at the seventh grade level in math. Brittani asked the center to help with tuition assistance so that she could continue her education. She also needed help finding employment so that she could support her child.

Workforce Solution

After learning of her skills deficiency, Brittani enrolled in the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Youth program. She was fully committed to her future success and participated in job readiness workshops offered by the PPWFC Youth Zone. Also, she was Youth Ambassador at the Governor’s Summer Job Hunt Youth Job Fair. In addition, PPWFC paid for remedial classes in math that brought her math skills to the 12.8 grade level. Through the PPWFC Youth Opportunity Internship program, Brittani was referred to the Garden of the Gods Club as a Human Resources Assistant.

Outcomes & Benefits

After only three months of employment, Brittani was named Employee of the Month at the Garden of the Gods Club. When her internship ended, Brittani was hired full-time. While working and caring for her child, she continues to pursue her degree in Early Childhood Development using tuition assistance from PPWFC, and she is close to attaining her certificate as a Director of Early Childhood Development. She loves her job, but her passion is working with children.
