Meet Mr. Robinson

Workforce Challenge

Although he had a master's degree and graduate level certification in project management, and many years of experience as an IT Project Manager, Mr. Robinson struggled to obtain employment in his field. With a strong resume and job applications, he got many calls from recruiters, and some interviews, but could not land the job. He noticed that many recruiters/ hiring managers asked why he didn’t have a Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.

Workforce Solution

Mr. Robinson had been unemployed for over a year and did not have the funds to pay for the training required to obtain the PMP Certification. He came to the Pikes Peak Workforce Center to meet with a Veterans Representative. He met eligibility requirements and was co-enrolled in the VWIP and H-1B Technical Skills Training Programs. Using funds from both programs, he was sent to PMP training and funds were also used to pay for the PMP test, PMP certificate and PMI membership for one year.

Outcomes & Benefits

Mr. Robinson attended a 4-day training class and tested for his certificate in the next seven days. He was highly motivated. After obtaining his certificate, he landed a job as a IT project manager with a company in Texas. He started at $45 per hour. Mr. Robinson said, “The staff at the PPWFC was very helpful and professional. They quickly assessed my situation and guided me through every step of the process. I would highly recommend the PPWFC to anyone in need of finding new employment."
